Voiceover artists and on-line gaming

dvoicebox Speaker image 2I must admit when I think about games on computers and on-line I tend to assume that they mostly fall into similar categories with plenty of fighting, war imagery, violence and sexual imagery. If, like me, you’re a parent of younger children, some, if not most, of these games just don’t seem appropriate for young kids. After all they’ve got the rest of their life to be visually assaulted by, and engage with, a world of violence and aggression and “gritty” imagery.

I don’t think its being over-protective not to want your children to be shooting “baddies” all the time. I’d like them to play some other games – at least some of the time.

Interesting then to discover that there is an alternative to the “shoot em all up” games. I’ve just done a voiceover for an international company based in The Netherlands who create games with the target audience of girls, teens and families. I found it quite refreshing to discover that there was something else on offer – especially something for girls – although as my kids are both boys I guess we won’t be testing out those games.  Still I had no idea that there was an alternative to the games you see advertised on the telly.

So some voiceovers get to be characters in on-line games. Not me! The closest I get is doing a corporate VO for a company that creates the games – but still found it interesting though.
