Tall Ships and Twitter

SAIL_Twitter_02Every five years Amsterdam in the Netherlands plays host to SAIL – a celebration of all things ship and sail related.

More than 600 ships from all over the world congregate in the harbour – displaying a wide range of craft including tall ships and historical replicas.

SAIL 2015 took place recently and this time the nautical festival saw a unique collaboration between the event organisers and social media giant Twitter.

I was asked to provide to the voice over narration to a video explaining Twitter’s involvement at SAIL 2015.

SAIL_Twitter_01The event was a perfect opportunity to demonstrate the application of Twitter’s new video streaming service: Periscope.
During SAIL there were teams of people on the quayside streaming live video feeds of the events and activities.

In a further development organisers brought in a fully branded Twitter helicopter and gave flights to key stakeholders – all of whom had their smart phones enabled to run Periscope.

As a result with their “birds eye view” they became in effect live reporters of the event. SAIL became a top trending topic on Twitter during its duration.

The video was produced by Nynke La Porte at Izzyworks
