Blog

When part of your work is recording corporate and explainer video voiceovers you can discover quite a range of things  you previously had no idea existed.

For example non slip tennis courts; a special plastic used in photovoltaic cells; an iphone app that controls wood burning stoves; how to decommission wind turbines; a machine that measures human body resonant frequencies; how to turn a conservatory into an extra room; a water distribution and sewerage company in the desert in the UAE and finding out how to drive fancy VW cars over rocky terrain – you name it I’ve done the voice over!.

I hope these blog posts give a flavour of the more interesting voiceover stuff that sometimes comes my way – plus some of the other things I like that I’ve come across in those moments when I’m waiting for the next script to arrive!

“In a World…” VO man dies

“In a World…” VO man dies

 March 15, 2014
It’s always sad to hear about the passing of someone working in this voiceover industry. So I was saddened and slightly confused to hear about the death of the US voiceover man associated with the deep voiced “In a World..” movie trailers that used to be so popular. Hal Douglas passed away this week aged 89.  My confusion came from the fact that it was only a few years ago read more

Wiggins on The Archers

Wiggins on The Archers

 March 15, 2014
In a brief moment waiting for a voiceover script to arrive I was just getting up to date on the news – checking out the BBC news website. I came across a story that you’ve probably heard about where Olympic star Bradley Wiggins was making a cameo appearance on Radio 4’s long running soap The Archers. I’m not sure what this says about me but when I looked on the read more

Video voiceover narration

Video voiceover narration

 February 22, 2014
February is turning into a busy month in my voiceover studio. I’ve been hard at work in my booth on a variety of voiceover projects. I’ve recently recorded the voiceover for another module in the series I’m presenting for Zenosis – I think this is the 18th module out of a total of 23. Once again it explores another facet of the process of marketing pharmaceutical brands in various international read more

VO for L&G and other voiceover work

I’ve been hard at work in my voiceover booth recording a large quantity of IVR prompts for Legal and General. I’ve been the voice on their phone system for a few months now but this is one of the largest batches of audio I’ve had to produce so far. These prompts were all for the part of the business involved in investments. So now if you ring up to talk read more

VO for Beatles documentary

VO for Beatles documentary

 January 10, 2014
A voice over narration I recorded for a DVD documentary about the Beatles is now available to buy. I recorded the voiceover late last summer and it’s been in production ever since. “The Beatles are Coming” is a documentary that chronicles the Beatlemania Years. It uses archive TV interviews and newsreel footage from the early 60’s to tell the story, as it says, “from the Cavern to Candlestick Park”.  It’s read more

Musical interlude

Musical interlude

 January 9, 2014
In between voiceover jobs I was checking out a few things on the internet (as you do) and came across a great music video. When I used to present on the radio station Planet Rock I got to play Deep Purple’s Smoke on the Water loads of times. It’s a rock song – and a guitar riff that I grew up listening to. And of course as a musician who read more

It’s been busy in my voiceover studio this week with a variety of voiceover projects being recorded and edited. I recently became the voice for the IVR service for Legal and General – so when you ring up with a query or a claim it’s my voice that guides you through the menus and tells you which button to press. This week I’ve been recording another batch of messages for read more

VO man says “yes”

I’ve been in my booth recording a voiceover narration for a corporate video for Del Monte. The video shows the range of services and fresh food that Del Monte produce and distribute from their centre in Dubai, UAE. It seems that for many people in this country, when they hear the brand name Del Monte they just want to break into “the man from Del Monte – he say yes”. read more

Voiceover for L & G

Voiceover for L & G

 October 22, 2013
Over the last few weeks I’ve been busily recording the voice-over for phone messages for the IVR system used by Legal and General for their customers. It seems that later this week the messages I’ve recorded will go live. So once that happens my voice will be the one you hear when you ring up Legal and General to make a claim or to find out more about their insurance read more

Drains are bad for voiceovers

Drains are bad for voiceovers

 October 16, 2013
Life is a bit more difficult than usual in the dVoiceBox voiceover studio and it’s all to do with drains. More accurately it’s to do with the installation of drains. About a year ago I did a voiceover for my local water company : Severn Trent. Now it feels like they are repaying the favour with some “investment in infrastructure”.  This means they are currently replacing the old Victorian era read more
