Well a week and a half of heavy cold followed by sinusitis has brought my voiceover work to a complete standstill. Whilst the inability to work has been really frustrating I have used the time to check out some interesting things on the internet. Coming soon I’ll post my research into the right microphone for voice artists – but first here’s another musical interlude.

I’ve played a guitar for many years but I can honestly say I haven’t seen anyone quite like Erik Mongrain playing his composition Airtap!
I first came across him playing on Later with Jools – I thought it was pretty impressive but I prefer this version which seems a more relaxed and assured performance – check it out here

Then I subsequently saw a video of him in a playing in a massive church – same piece but very difference acoustics – check it out here

However it seems that appreciating this may be a bit of a guy thing – I was blown away by it but when I showed it to some of my female musician friends they were less than complimentary – “Where is the tune?” they asked – and went on to suggest that he’d spent a bit too long in his bedroom….

Well I think there’s a lovely rippling tune there – but maybe I’m just overwhelmed by his technique!
