VO narration for VW XL1

I’ve just recorded a voice over narration for an information video for owners of VW cars wishing to learn how to access and use the “volkswagen carnet” system. This is the second voice over I have recorded for VW in recent months – some weeks ago I was approached by Kingdom Creative to narrate an information video for owners of the VW XL1 car.

volkswagen_xl1I was not familiar with the car but I realised as I read the script that this was a very remarkable car with its hybrid electric diesel motor. Part of my voice over was helping to explain the process of charging the high voltage 5.5 kW hour lithium ion battery.

There were also special instructions on how to clean the exterior of the car. It seems you cannot use the traditional hose pipe and sponge approach or even an automated car wash due to the specialised nature of the panels and windows.

I particularly liked the reference to the side window panels – which are made from polycarbonate – “made in the Czech Republic and finished with a special coating by a company in California that makes parts for the American space programme”.

I was thinking this was a pretty unique kind of vehicle – but as I didn’t get to the see the video at the time I had no idea how special. After some research I now know I know that the XL1 is a cool looking streamlined 2 seater that is in fact the 3rd version of a car first revealed as a prototype back in 2002.
This is the production model – but that means a very exclusive run – only 250 cars have been manufactured.

So it turns out to be a very exclusive voice over as you’ll only get to hear my voice over if you buy an XL1: the video is on a memory stick that is given to drivers when they buy the car.

It seems the client liked my Xl1 voice over enough to ask for me to provide the VO for the carnet videos.

Both projects were produced by Kingdom Creative.
