Voiceover narration update

A recent post on LinkedIn from another voiceover suggested that January is a good time to take stock and also to catch up on a things that may get overlooked at other times when you are more busy. So it’s a good time to track down and update examples of previous work that, for example, you might use on your website.
CR3 Rover video grab
It’s good advice and so today I posted a video that I voiced a few weeks ago. It’s an update on a corporate narration where the company had changed their name. I had to go through and replace the name in a few sections plus recording a few paragraphs of new copy to reflect the fact that the look of the video had been changed to incorporate new animated elements.

I’ve got quite good at updates. It can sometimes be tricky trying to match to the original narration but I usually have that playing in my headphones in the booth so I can read along with it and so match the tone, pace and style of delivery. I then just drop in the new words pretty seamlessly. It usually just takes a little bit editing to tidy up the insertion.

It helps that I generally use the same microphone and studio set up. Nevertheless I always keep notes for each session so if, for example, I had originally chosen to use my AT4033 or NT1 instead of my Neumann U87 I will know and can put up the appropriate mic to match the original session. The changes in sound between mics is very noticeable to be me although perhaps to others it seems quite subtle.

Anyway this is the video for CR3 that I narrated for Marc Thorneycroft at photo-videoworks.
