Chris Radley – Voice Over Blog

When part of your work is recording corporate and explainer video voiceovers you can discover quite a range of things  you previously had no idea existed.

For example non slip tennis courts; a special plastic used in photovoltaic cells; an iphone app that controls wood burning stoves; how to decommission wind turbines; a machine that measures human body resonant frequencies; how to turn a conservatory into an extra room; a water distribution and sewerage company in the desert in the UAE and finding out how to drive fancy VW cars over rocky terrain – you name it I’ve done the voice over!.

I hope these blog posts give a flavour of the more interesting voiceover stuff that sometimes comes my way – plus some of the other things I like that I’ve come across in those moments when I’m waiting for the next script to arrive!

Voice Over Variety I’ve been missing out on the sunny weather as a result of being too busy recording a range of voiceovers in my studio booth. The recent varied range of voiceovers has included radio commercials, video narrations, IVR messages and an e-learning programme. I’ve just recorded a narration for an animated video explaining how the Altiom system allows various items of equipment in a home to be automated read more

VO for radio ad I’ve just recently started working with audio production company Spark Audio and have recorded a couple of voiceover ISDN sessions with them. My first job with Spark was for a radio ad for  Connect FM. After the recording I realised the voice over also made some connections for me.  For a start Spark Audio are based in Canvey Island in Essex – the county in which read more

VO technique tip Most of my voice over work consists of video narrations for corporate projects but from time to time I get asked to provide voiceovers for commercials.  Talking to some other voice over artists it seems that this scenario is quite common: you’re in the booth doing a session, you’ve done a couple of takes, everyone in the control room quite likes what you’re doing but they just read more

Voiceover narration The weather outside may have turned warm and sunny here in the UK but I’ve been inside in my voice  over booth providing a voiceover narration on a video for something that’s definitely more associated with the winter and cold weather. The video in question is being produced by Lydstudiet Aros in Denmark and is for wood burning stove manufacturer Aduro.  The VO narration was helping to explain read more

News from the voice over booth It has been a busy and varied few weeks in my voiceover booth – I’ve recorded voiceover narrations, adverts and also some e-learning projects. I’ve just used my ISDN connection to hook up with Voiceovers.co.uk to record a narration for a short video encouraging potential science under-graduates to consider applying to the Earth Sciences department at Cambridge University. When I’m recording on my own read more

More voiceover news I’ve been very busy in my voiceover booth over the last few weeks with a range of voice over work including video narrations, voice overs for production information projects and some elearning modules. I’ve just recorded a voice over for a company that produces a strong transparent film that can be used to secure broken windows. It is an alternative to the traditional boarding up of windows read more

The final performance included dancers as well as the video and was part of the introduction to the conference and its opening session. “In a World…” VO man dies

VO man passes away It’s always sad to hear about the passing of someone working in this voiceover industry. So I was saddened and slightly confused to hear about the death of the US voiceover man associated with the deep voiced “In a World..” movie trailers that used to be so popular. Hal Douglas passed away this week aged 89.  My confusion came from the fact that it was only read more

Radio cameo for Olympic star In a brief moment waiting for a voiceover script to arrive I was just getting up to date on the news – checking out the BBC news website. I came across a story that you’ve probably heard about where Olympic star Bradley Wiggins was making a cameo appearance on Radio 4’s long running soap The Archers. I’m not sure what this says about me but read more

Varied voiceover work February is turning into a busy month in my voiceover studio. I’ve been hard at work in my booth on a variety of voiceover projects. I’ve recently recorded the voiceover for another module in the series I’m presenting for Zenosis – I think this is the 18th module out of a total of 23. Once again it explores another facet of the process of marketing pharmaceutical brands read more
