Chris Radley – Voice Over Blog

When part of your work is recording corporate and explainer video voiceovers you can discover quite a range of things  you previously had no idea existed.

For example non slip tennis courts; a special plastic used in photovoltaic cells; an iphone app that controls wood burning stoves; how to decommission wind turbines; a machine that measures human body resonant frequencies; how to turn a conservatory into an extra room; a water distribution and sewerage company in the desert in the UAE and finding out how to drive fancy VW cars over rocky terrain – you name it I’ve done the voice over!.

I hope these blog posts give a flavour of the more interesting voiceover stuff that sometimes comes my way – plus some of the other things I like that I’ve come across in those moments when I’m waiting for the next script to arrive!

Pancreatic cancer video still

Voiceover for cancer charity video

 November 14, 2019
VO narration for a Pancreatic Cancer charity I recently recorded the voice over narration for an animated video for the Pancreatic Cancer UK charity. The video was produced by Wurkhouse in Derry with a brief to provide an over view of the condition and symptoms in less than a minute. The final version of video is now on-line and you can see it here or on YouTube. The video was read more

Downloadable demos

 November 14, 2019
New demos are available It was recently been pointed out to me that the voice over demos and showreels on my website were not available as downloads. For quite a while I had agreed with my website designer that this was not that important and anyway would probably lead to web page clutter. However a recent discussion in an on-line voice over group convinced me that I was missing out read more

Studio upgrade – Blue Dog Power

 November 9, 2019
Rack mounted power supply for studio console At the heart of my recording studio is my medium format Soundcraft Ghost 32 channel analogue mixing console. I’d always wanted a proper studio mixing desk and when I could afford it I bought this one new about 18 years ago. Over the years it’s needed some minor maintenance and has been sent back to the manufacturer Harmen on two occasions when something read more

Do corporate videos need voice over?

 October 21, 2019
Why are voiceovers not so widely used these days? I’ve noticed that some on-line corporate videos now do not have voice overs.  Perhaps on some occasions the lack of voice over is because the company or organisation in question is working in a global market and they perhaps feel the pictures will explain everything you need to know.  Also they may not have the budget to localise the voice over read more

South Sudan – VO narration on-line

 September 22, 2019
Voice over for the Dutch Government I recently mentioned a voice over that I had been asked to record for the Amsterdam based film production company Izzyworks. It was an interesting narration for a video explaining the supportive role of the Dutch Government in promoting the rebuilding of the war torn African country South Sudan. At the point I previously posted about the job I thought it was more or read more

Voice over with the power (generation)

 September 9, 2019
Narration for video showing wind farm decommissioning From time to time in recent years I’ve read news items about power generation in the UK where experts wonder if we’ve got sufficient electricity generating capacity now and into the future. That power generation might be in short supply in the UK is no surprise to me: in recent years I’ve lost count of the number of voice overs I’ve recorded for read more

New Voice-over narrations

 August 29, 2019
Another video for the Dutch Government I’m back from my summer break and back in the booth to record some voice over narrations. One is for a new corporate client – but for reasons of confidentiality I am not able to talk about it. The other is for a video promoting the work of the Dutch Government in South Sudan. This video is being produced by Nynke La Porte at read more

Back in the voice over booth

 September 4, 2018
A return to recording after a summer break After a very welcome summer break I’m back in my recording studio’s booth recording a whole variety of voice over projects. Earlier in the year I recorded a video narration for Amsterdam based Audio as a Service. I’ve just been recording more VO for videos for them promoting the idea of hiring tech equipment rather than buying it. I’ve been IVR voice read more

World Fishing Day promo still - Fishing TV

Voiceover for on-line TV promo

 June 20, 2018
World Fishing Day I was invited to record voice overs for the series of promos for an event to be shown by on-line TV station Fishing TV. Its the first time I’ve worked for Fishing TV and I have to admit up until this voice-over job I’d never heard of the event in question: World Fishing Day. But I now know that it takes place across 24 hours on the read more
